Located on the east bank of the Li river in the center of Guilin, the Seven-star Park (Qixing Park) covers an area of 137.4 hectares. It is named after the seven mountain peaks which look like a big dipper hanging in the sky. Regarded as the epitome of landscape culture of Guilin, the Seven-star Park brings together green hills, clear water, strange caves and fantastic rocks.

The history of Seven Star Park can be traced back to the Sui and Tang Dynasties (581-907 A.D.). With profound history and culture, it is the perfect integration of nature and humanity. It is the largest comprehensive park and landmark cultural landscape of Guilin, one of the top national parks in China, and a World Tourism Organization-recommended site.

Seven Star Cave (Pinyin: Qixingyan 七星岩)

The Seven Star Cave, an outstanding representative of karst landscape in the world, is honored as the “Palace of Natural Arts”.  With the largest stalactite lion in China and various natural murals, it gives us unlimited enjoyment of imagination and beauty.

Dragon Hiding Cave (Pinyin: Longyinyan龙隐岩)

Dragon Hiding Cave is about 3.5 meters high and 15 meters wide. It is located on one side of the mountain peak, forming a huge natural barrier. It gives people a sense of vastness, height and brightness. As the cave looks like a cloth bag, it is also called Bag Rock. There are many inscriptions in the cave.  A “Guilin Stele Forest” exhibition hall has been built at the entrance of the Dragon Hiding Cave, displaying rubbings of steles scattered in various places in the city for people to appreciate. It is praised as “the ancient forest of calligraphy art”.

Flowers Bridge (Pinyin: Huaqiao 花桥)

Flower Bridge is the oldest bridge in Guilin and was first established in the Song Dynasty during the period of Jiaxi. It is located at the main entrance of the park, spanning across the Xiao Dong River and Lingjian Creek. The bridge length in total is 135 m. The bridge deck has a covered corridor and the pavilion there is roofed with green glazed tiles.

Camel Hill (Pinyin: Luotuofeng 骆驼峰)

Camel Hill, formerly known as the Jiuhu Hill, looks like a dromedary, so it is named the “Camel Hill”. It is the top 1 of the eight sights of Guilin. In 1997, Mr. Clinton, the President of the United States at that time, came and made a famous environmental speech at the foot of the mountain. There also exist the longest natural colored granite fresco and the only natural rock climbing field in Guilin.

Guilin Zoo (Pinyin: Guilin Dongwuyuan桂林动物园)

The Guilin zoo is located in the Seven Star Park and is the only professional zoo in Guilin, now home to over 50 animal species. It was founded in 1959, covering an area of 2.3 hectares. If you want to get into the zoo, you must purchase an entrance ticket to the Seven Star Park first.

Putuo Hill (Pinyin: Putuoshan 普陀山)

Putuo Hill is the main body of the Seven Star Park. Its height is 265 meters. The mountain is also referred to as Putuo because it is where the worship of Guanyin Bodhisattva is hosted. Well endowed with sceneries, there are many rock caves and multiple pavilions.

Zhaixing Pavilion (Pinyin: Zhaixingting 摘星亭)

Zhaixing Pavilion is the only high pavilion among the seven peaks of Qixing Hill. Standing on the pavilion, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the senic area. To the east, you can see Yaoshan, Tian Sheng, Pingfeng, and Mao’er Mountain. To the north, you can view Yu Mountain, Diecai Mountain, Zhangbo Mountain, and the clear Li River. To the west, you can admire the Elephant Trunk Hill and Nanxi River. Therefore, it was once known as “Kuangguan Pavilion” (Panoramic Pavilion).

Guilin Forest of Steles (Pinyin: Guilin Beilin桂林碑林)

Guilin Stele Forest is located in the southwest foot of Moon Tooth Mountain in the Seven Star Park. It is a complete and large cliff carvings in southern China, and is called “the millstone of Lingnan Stele Forest”. The Guilin Stele Forest has a history of more than 1,000 years. It had been a place gathering scholars and poets from ancient times, and many famous poets and scholars have left poems and inscriptions here.

How to Get to Seven Stars Park

Bus: Visitors can take Bus No.10, 11, 14, 18, 21, 24, 25, 28, 30, 97 or 204, and then get off at Seven Stars Park Station.

Get to Seven Stars Park from:

  • The city center of Guilin: Take bus No. 18, 14, or 30 to the Seven Star Park stop (the Flower Bridge entrance).
  • The airport: Take the airport bus to the Civil Aviation Building in the city center. Then, take bus No. 11, 18, or 52 to the “Seven Star Park” stop. If you want a more convenient option, better take a taxi directly.

Best Time to Visit

Seven Star park, as the largest comprehensive park in Guilin, is good for sightseeing and leisure in every season, but it is best to visit from April to October. It is also the best time for a Guilin travel. Because at this time, the natural scenery is charming and weather is comfortable for outdoor activities.

Essential Tips

  • It is recommended to enter the park in the morning. The weather is cool and the light soft, good for taking photos. Meanwhile, you can avoid the high temperature at noon.
  • You can take an electric sightseeing car (20 yuan per person) in the scenic area, or a European-style horse-drawn carriage (30 yuan per person). But walking is recommended because it allows you to better enjoy the scenery along the way.
  • Recommended visiting route: Flower Bridge Gate – Flower Bridge – Bamboo Raft – Longyin Rock – European-style Horse-drawn Carriage – Rock Climbing – Ecological Park – Milk Sucking Fish – Seven-star Cave – Camel Mountain – Zoo.
